Healthcare integration deserves modern tools.
Intuware builds intu-dev, an open-source healthcare integration engine, and IntuCloud, the managed platform and support home for it. Two products, one thesis: interfaces should be code, and running them should not require a specialist priesthood.
The problem
The pipes are older than the software using them.
A modern hospital runs on data moving between systems, and most of that movement is handled by interface engines designed when the JVM was the obvious answer and ES5 JavaScript was new. The channels work. What has not aged well is everything around them: configuration trapped in a GUI, transformer logic nobody can review, clustering behind a commercial license, and a shrinking pool of people who know how any of it fits together.
Meanwhile, the number of interfaces keeps going up. Every new application, every new partner, every regulatory requirement adds another feed to a queue that a very small team is already struggling to keep on top of.
The approach
Open core, on purpose.
intu-dev is the engine, licensed under MPL-2.0. A Go binary of roughly 20 MB and a Node.js worker pool, running channels defined as YAML plus TypeScript. Anyone can run it, fork it, or read it to satisfy themselves about what it does with their data. Clustering is included rather than held back as the paid upgrade, because an engine you cannot run for availability is not really free.
IntuCloud is the managed platform: the visual designer, environments with promotion gates, monitoring, PHI under BAA, SSO, and support. It runs the same engine binary, pinned by digest, from sandbox to production.
For organizations that will never move PHI off-premise, there is a third path: enterprise support for self-hosted deployments. Same engineers, your infrastructure.
What we believe
Four commitments.
Integration as code
An interface is software. It should live in version control, be reviewable in a pull request, and be diffable when something changes — not locked in a GUI backed by a database.
No lock-in
The engine is MPL-2.0 and every project exports to run on it. Portability is a design constraint, which is the only version of that promise worth anything.
Clinical traffic is sacred
Messages are never dropped for commercial reasons. Overage is soft, backpressure is explicit, and undeploy drains rather than cutting off in-flight work.
Compliance is table stakes
PHI under BAA, encryption, tenant isolation and audit logs are the price of entry, not a premium tier. Where a control is still in progress, we say so.
